Fall 2023 Opening Soon

Hello, Hartford UConn students! Your writing center will be opening to assist you with all of your writing needs on September the 11th, Monday of our third week of classes. If you need anything before then, please contact us at the link on our main page.

We understand that there are some colleges and schools that are looking for personal statements and other application materials prior to our opening, so we will be open on Thursday, September 7th for a part of the day to see those of you who would like to discuss your work.

It’s an exciting semester, and we look forward to working with you!

Summer Consultations Available

Hello, Hartford writers!

We are now open for UConn students to discuss their writing, from 10AM-2PM every Monday through Thursday. Our hours will shift a little when we get to June 26th, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Our consultants can chat with you in person or through e-tutoring, and appointments can be made using our normal scheduler or by dropping in to room 218 of the Hartford Times building.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Spring Complete, Summer Planning

Well, that was a very successful Spring semester, and we’re quite glad to have worked with all of you this year. With about 270 appointments, we were quite busy!

This summer, we’re going to be available for in-person and e-tutoring, so keep your eyes peeled for our new schedule. Diana and Teja will be our consultants, and we are excited to see you all again soon.

Enjoy your break!

Fall 2022!!

Hello, writers!

The fall semester is almost upon us, and the Writing Center will be open for consultations starting on Monday, September 12th. We will also have a special day when we will be open for reviewing Business and Nursing school applications with walk-in appointments (no scheduling necessary) from 10AM-5PM on Thursday, September 8th.

Remember that if you do not have an account, you will need to make one to schedule appointments in the future, and you can make an account with us very easily at this link. If you make an account, check your email for the “I’m not a robot” message you’ll need to confirm.

Scheduling appointments is straight-forward as well, using our scheduler at this link.

Open for Writers!

Hello, Hartford writers!

Your Writing Center is now open for the Spring 2022 semester, and we can’t wait to see you. There are three ways you can work on your writing with us, all of which are scheduled through our online system:

In-Person Sessions: We will have regular in-person sessions where you meet with a consultant and discuss your project and any drafting you’ve done for it. We require that both the consultant and writer wear masks for these sessions.

Online Sessions: If you are unable to come to the center in-person, you can still have a live conversation about your paper with our online sessions. You and the consultant meet in a virtual chat room and discuss your paper live.

e-Tutoring Sessions: Should your schedule not fit with ours, you can send us a copy of your draft and the requirements for your work, and we will respond with commentary about what we see and suggestions about how to better fit the parameters of the project.

Alongside this, you can reach out to live consultants during our regular hours at our website with the chat feature located in the bottom right of the screen.

It is an exciting semester, and we look forward to being part of your pla

Spring 2022

2022 has arrived with a bit of a backslide, social-distancing and pandemic-wise. That’s frustrating for all of us, and we hope you will be able to make good use of our services here this semester no matter what form they take.

We, like you, are waiting to find out whether or not we will be available for in-person consultations when we open on January 31st. We hope that it will be possible to meet in-person, as those sessions are more productive than most others.

If we cannot have in-person sessions, there will be both synchronous and asynchronous options for you. All of this is set-up through our scheduler, and there are videos explaining how to use all of our systems on our Virtual Consultations page.

Fall 2021 – A New In-Person Start!

Welcome back to the campus!

Your Hartford Writing Center is extremely excited to be back and working with you in-person, and we look forward to seeing you here.

We open on September 13th!

We ask that you come with a mask to your appointments here in 218 HTB, and we will be keeping the total number of appointments available at any one time down so that we do not have a lot of people in the center at once. We will wear a mask during our appointment, and our tables will be cleaned regularly to ensure that the center is as safe a space as possible.

If you are uncomfortable with masks or in-person consultations, we encourage you to use our online e-Tutoring system, in which you can send a paper to us and we will review it and send it back to you–no need to meet virtually or anything like that.

Should you have any questions, feel free to email!

The Fall 2020 Plan

Hello, Hartford writers!

As we begin to get ready for a new semester of educational endeavor, the Writing Center is gearing up to provide you with the help you need to produce your best writing. With the need to practice social distancing and wear masks, particularly as the weather begins to cool, we have decided that in-person sessions are likely to be ineffective.

It has been a tough decision, as it seems that the online sessions are less commonly used by student writers. We want to be here for you and we want you (and our staff) to be safe, which is the most important aspect of all this.

We will have our two primary online consultation strategies available for you to pick from, both of which you can read about on our Online Consultations webpage–we have videos explaining how things work there as well.

The center opens on September 14th, and we look forward to seeing you–virtually, at least–again soon!
